Giving children a fair start!

Sole Potential is a UK charity created out of necessity as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. Currently 1 in 4 children in the UK are living in poverty, with that number rising every day following the toughest year any of us have experienced. It has highlighted a huge gap in society, most of all for our children, who have suffered in all areas of their life, at such a critical stage of their development.

Thankfully plenty of good work has been done with the Marcus Rashford campaign tackling food poverty. However sport has taken a back seat, and is still seen as a luxury for so many families. Sport can be an invaluable escape, providing a safe space for young people to form friendships and develop the skills needed later in life. It can be the only time during the week, parents can take a moment to catch a breath, so vital in maintaining their own well-being.

Recent reports have shown there has been an increase in sporting opportunities and facilities in recent years, however as a result of the pandemic, participation rates dropped dramatically. Along with technological and racial inequalities, economic situation was identified as the leading reason for this.

Sole Potential wants to bridge this gap and give all children a future of hope and teamwork, rather than the isolation and fear they have experienced for the past year. By providing good quality sports footwear, we give the children the opportunity to discover their individual potential. So many have had to settle for old, worn out trainers handed down from siblings, for too long. This can cause social anxiety and reduced participation in the short-term, and physical injury in the long-term. We have all experienced the effects that come with pulling on a new pair of shoes we love for the first time and we want to give this same experience to all young people, regardless of their background.

To achieve our goals of putting 1000 pairs of new sports footwear on feet, we need your help. Any donation, no matter how small can be instrumental in changing the life of a child through sport.
