The Business of Creativity - An evening with Sir John Hegarty - November 2022

Below is the recording of an Old Millhillians careers event held at Glasshouse Chambers in the City. We were extremely lucky to get the award winning Sir John Hegarty to speak at an event for entrepreneurs and marketing professionals but we are certain, anyone will enjoy what Sir John has to say.

Sir John Hegarty has been one of the biggest names in global advertising for over six decades. In 1967 he joined the Cramer Saatchi consultancy which later became Saatchi & Saatchi in 1970, where he was a founding shareholder. In 1973 he left to co-found TBWA in London as creative director, the first agency to be voted Campaign’s Agency of the Year award in 1980. In 1982 he started Bartle Bogle Hegarty, one of the most awarded agencies of all time. Across his career, Hegarty has made it his mission to champion creativity and imagination in his industry.

He was knighted in 2007 for services to advertising and creative industries.

John is one of the most awarded creatives in the communication industry. He has published two books; “Hegarty on Advertising: Turning Intelligence Into Magic” and “Hegarty on Creativity”. He is currently Co-founder and Creative Director of The Garage Soho 


Peter Wakeham - Brand Manager 2023

Peter Wakeham specializes in technology based start ups with over 50 years of experience in marketing, general management and board level positions. His angel investments are primarily in technology companies (Intamac, Q-Matic, Shockoe Commerce and Revionics) and property (Property Bridge Capital).

Peter co-founded PrecisionIR Inc. (aka WILink Plc), a leading investor targeting and communications business, which listed on AIM in July 2000 and was acquired by a US Private Equity Fund in June 2006.

Peter has over 50 years’ experience working for blue chip multi-nationals and in entrepreneurial ventures. Following initial training with Unilever, he worked in the 1970s and 1980s for Mars and PepsiCo, where he held senior international marketing and general management positions in the UK, Sweden, Japan and the United States. Also during this period, he undertook a variety of consultancy assignments in Scandinavia, Australia and the UK as an engagement manager with McKinsey & Co. In 1988, Peter was a founder member of the buy-out team that acquired Bricom, a business services conglomerate, from British and Commonwealth Holdings Plc. He then became Divisional Director, Business Services Europe for BET Plc until its acquisition by Rentokil-Initial Plc in 1996. Peter undertakes voluntary work and is also an angel investor.
